The tax collector is an elected office that is permitted by Pennsylvania law and governed by the Second Class Township Code. Tax collectors serve a 4-year term of office.
The primary duties and functions of the tax collector include:
Collecting all taxes or assessments levied within the jurisdiction by authorities empowered to levy taxes*
Keeping / providing reports as requested
Providing for certifications necessary for re-financing or settlement of real property
Performing other duties associated with the legal requirements of the office
Receiving, disbursing, and keeping a general accounting of monies received
*This may include taxes established under the Local Tax Enabling Act. Currently, the Bethel Township Tax Collector only collects taxes assessed against real property for the township and school district
